Let’s face it: Being a solo practitioner is a lonely life.
Even if you have a few staff members, it can often feel like we don’t have anybody to think through business challenges with. This is particularly true if your mindset is that of an entrepreneur, rather than “just another tax guru.”
Sure, you might attend your association’s annual convention, and perhaps attend a seminar once or twice a year. These meetings are incredibly motivating, educational, and great for networking?
But what happens when you get back home? Having been to a number of such events myself, I can tell you what always happens to me, and perhaps you can identify with this: After two weeks of (or less!) of being back home, the excitement generated at the meeting has worn off and the wind has left my sails.
One of the most valuable things I’ve had working in my favor for the past seven years is the fact that I have a mentor and other like-minded entrepreneurs to speak with on a regular basis. Without other successful people to interact with, I highly doubt that I would have enjoyed the success I’ve had as a tax professional since my career change at the end of 2007. I honestly just don’t think it would have happened.
What exactly is a mastermind group?
The concept of mastermind groups was popularized by Napoleon Hill, who stated that a mastermind group is, “…two or more people who work in perfect harmony for the attainment of a definite purpose.”
Think about that for a moment. Attainment of a definite purpose.
What we’re really talking about here is goal achievement… Taking measurable and sustainable action towards achieving personal and professional goals, and having accountability along the way. That’s what a mastermind group brings to the table.
Mastermind group members provide a number of things to members of the group:
- Idea “bouncing”
- Constructive criticism
Mastermind groups are responsible for driving massive innovations within organizations around the world. The accountability factor alone provides massive leverage in growing your tax practice. Think about it: There’s some immensely powerful about telling a group of people that you’re going to do something, and then having to answer to that promise at some short time interval in the future.
The beauty of virtual mastermind groups
Most effective mastermind groups have weekly engagement. At a bare minimum, they should require monthly engagement as a group.
The most effective mastermind groups also put people together that are working towards similar objectives, and are on similar “wavelengths”.
How many motivated, entrepreneurial oriented tax professionals exist in your local area?
On top of that, how interested are you in speaking frankly about your business goals and plans with a direct competitor in your local market?
“Virtual” mastermind groups overcome both of these objections to participation.
Now let’s add coaching…
I get at least one email every week asking whether or not I have a coaching program. While the Tax Resolution Leadership Program includes a two months short coaching program, and Premium membership includes a monthly Q&A call, I have not offered a real coaching program up to this point.
Bad business move on my part, right? Well, not really. Keep in mind that I still have a tax practice to run, plus I’m not shy about the fact that I’ve structured my businesses (both my tax practice and this consulting business) to allow me to live my dream lifestyle, which involves frequent and extensive international travel.
What I’ve been searching for is an effective way to provide coaching, but without sacrificing my lifestyle design goals. Thus, the idea of combining coaching and mastermind groups was hatched. Voila!
Introducing the Tax Professional’s Virtual Mastermind Group
The purpose of this peer-based mastermind group, supplemented with group coaching sessions, individual advising, and hot-seat sessions, is to grow the area of your practice that you’re most focused on.
You’ll not only work with me directly, both one on one and in group coaching, but you’ll also work with a peer group to solve problems within your practice, stay motivated towards taking action, and maintain accountability for progress.
As a member of the Virtual Mastermind program, you’ll work with me and your peers to:
- Create a vision for where you want your tax practice to be one year from now.
- Implement a 12 month plan for achieving that vision.
- Transform your practice to take advantage of the 80/20 rule and work with more ideal clients.
- Receive peer support and accountability for reaching your goals.
- Receive coaching and tactical guidance from somebody that achieved his lifestyle goals via his tax practice.
How We’ll Work Together
This Mastermind Group will be based on the model of weekly engagement. Each and every week you’ll have homework to do, and accountability reports to make. You’ll share progress with your peers, and make sure and steady progress towards the realization of your worthwhile goal, which is the definition of success.
We’ll all have 24/7 access to a private members discussion forum, where we can discuss ideas, challenges, and solutions in a confidential environment. I’ll be participating heavily in that forum, to share my insight and help guide the group.
You’ll have a 30 to 60 minute weekly small group conference call or Google Hangout session, to actively brainstorm ideas, refine action plans, swap ideas, and track accountability for taking action on plans.
We’ll have one or two larger group coaching calls every month with me to discuss specific tactical actions, such as direct mail strategies, closing more sales, negotiating Installment Agreements, etc.
You’ll have direct email access to Jassen to discuss any specific sticking points you’re encountering in implementing your plan.
This program is obviously not for everybody. As a mastermind group, I want to fill this program with people of a particular mindset. Namely, only entrepreneurial tax professionals need apply.
If you’re not serious about taking action to radically transform your tax practice and your life, then this group is not for you.
If you’re always chasing the next shiny object, and are not committed to producing real results in your business, then this mastermind group is not for you.
However, if you’re truly committed to achieving more in your tax practice in the next twelve months than you have in the previous decade, then this program is for you.
If you truly desire to create a lifestyle driven practice that works for you, rather than you working for it, then this program is for you.
If you feel isolated as a tax entrepreneur, then I want you in this group.
If you understand the value of peer support and feedback… If you want to actually achieve a real vision of your perfect business… If you’re ready to think outside the box… If you’re an action taker instead of a tire kicker… Then I want you in this program.
Anything of real value isn’t cheap. In offering this program, I’m making a personal decision to reduce my tax resolution case load even further, so that I can myself available to YOU. At the same time, I want this program to be accessible to every tax professional that truly desires to create their ultimate tax practice.
This program is thus only $197 per month for the inaugural members. In January 2014, it will be increasing to $297 per month. Don’t forget that you will also receive all the current membership benefits contained in Premium membership.
I truly believe that to be a bargain. Just your contact time with me will be at a rate less than my normal hourly rate, which is $420 per hour. Add to that the feedback, support, and accountability of your peer group, and this really is a no-brainer investment in the success of your tax practice.
This program will run on a month-to-month basis. There is no annual contract, like I insist on for private consulting engagements.
In addition, since this mastermind program is fully intended to be the logical step up from Premium membership, you’ll also continue to receive all the benefits of Premium, including:
- Monthly Q&A call
- Tax Marketing Monthly newsletter
- Occasional audio training CDs and webinars
- Access to the members-only Premium Resource Library
